Remove Deteriorating Clear Gloss Finish from Briar

OK, thanks, guys. Never heard of Toluene, but an online search suggests that either "Xylol Xylene" is the same thing or very much like it. I have some acetone on hand, so I may try that first.

Remove Deteriorating Clear Gloss Finish from Briar

I have a Peterson (Christmas pipe, I think) that I purchased new some years back. The pipe has a clear high gloss "piano shine" finish which is now chipping off the briar in random locations. I don't know what the gloss finish is composed of. I'd like to remove the gloss finish completely...

    Thank You Samuel Gawith

Great idea!! "Smoking causes 9 out of 10 lung cancers." The EU is using a sort of shady method of suggesting that smokers almost surely will get lung cancer. Here is why: -- FROM LIVESCIENCE website.

    Boswell Northwoods Price

I think part of the reason for the price is Pennsylvania's recent tobacco tax increases. Real anti-business legislature there. (EDIT: In my humble opinion.)

Actually, I didn't have to reach out to C&D -- C&D reached out to me. A gentleman from C&D (Adam) sent a DM to me and now a replacement tin of Manhattan Afternoon is on the way. Pretty nice, I'd say. I forgot to mention in all this that Manhattan Afternoon is a blend that I liked very much, so...

Could I Have Prevented Mold from Forming?

OK, thanks everyone. I appreciate the information and advice and I'm glad to learn about the mold issue. I had heard about mold in some sealed tins, but did not know that mold could "bloom" after opening a seemingly unaffected tin. Live, smoke a pipe, and learn.

Could I Have Prevented Mold from Forming?

Thanks, but I've already disposed of the tin's contents. It seemed fine upon opening, so I figured since the mold occurred "on my watch," there was nothing to do except try to prevent it from happening again.

Could I Have Prevented Mold from Forming?

I recently bought several tins of Virginia and Vaper flake tobaccos, one of which was C&D Manhattan Afternoon. About a full month after initially opening the tin (which then seemed to be perfectly fine), I discovered gray mold throughout one side of the tin contents. The tin was about...

    Naval Collision Inquiry

What about radio contact from the tanker, something like, "Hey, US Navy guys! Our radar says that we seem to be heading toward your location. What gives? Please start your engines and take evasive action!" Just don't understand why technology did not prevent this, regardless of human error...

Warning: Dumb Question, Maybe - Tinned vs Bulk

I've read several posts stating that Carter Hall in the tin is preferable to the pouch.
