    Aged OJK

Glad you're enjoying it! I'm having to sell more of it than I'd hoped, but I'm gonna hold onto these last two or three jars until the undead pull it from my hands during the pending zombie apocalypse.

    Aged OJK

Yes - aged OJK is superlative (one of my 2 or 3 favorites, in fact). But it's even better pressed and then aged. Back when C&D still dealt directly with customers, you could order your own blends or have them alter an established blend to fit your personal taste. I got a one pound tin of OJK...

Surprised at my most used pipe

Half my collection is made up of filter pipes, and I love them as much as any others. I prefer Grabows and cobs with charcoal filters or Savs with the balsa filters. Dont let anyone tell you how to smoke, so long as you're enjoying it !

    List your favorite English tobacco

If we are defining an English blend as one with a good bit of lat, then mine are Comptons York Full Magnum Opus Odyssey Northwoods Gaslight But there are plenty more - it's hard to pick even five faves.

Are there any Sweet Latakia-Heavy blends?

I'd go with Boswell's Northwoods and Countryside. I think they're better than the Frog Morton series, they're sweet but you get the fulll effect of the lat. Maltese Falcon isn't a bad call, either.

Looking for a blend with an extremely strong casing

I'd take a tour of the Lakeland blends made by G and H. Ennerdale, Coniston, Kendal flakes....there's a bunch, and the flavorings are powerful.

    Time to meet Virginia

The obvious vas for me are Full Virginia Flake, Opening Night and Old Gowrie, along with some of the Mcclellands. Good luck!

    McCleland's acidic additive?

Um.... Why is it so hard to believe that the McClelland tang might not be the result of an additive? Sure, all tobaccos are cased, but I have no reason to believe the trademark smell/taste isn't the byproduct of aging, fermented vas that haven't been processed in the same ways that other...

I Still Love Haddo's, Even If It's Not Cool

Haddos is a brilliant blend that I fell in love with on the first bowl. I wasn't aware it wasn't "cool," but I'm hardly a cool guy anyway. The most interesting thing about Haddos, IMO, is that it changes so dramatically with age. I have never encountered a blend more affected by age than Haddos...

Lakelands - An Attempt To Understand The Famous Gawith Scents

Hmmm.... First off, I'm a huge fan of the scented Lakeland blends. I smoke Ennerdale and Kendal flakes regularly, and never grow tired of them. Some guys love the flavors, some don't. And it's not necessarily that it's because one prefers natural flavors or not -- most of us don't some one...

    Latakia "Fading" When Jarred?

In my experience, Latakia takes a long while to fade appreciably... Say five or more years, and even then it tends to be a slow mellowing process rather than "fading" away. I once had the chance to try some 25-plus year old Balkan Sobranie and the Latakia was still not just noticeable but very...

    Best drugstore tobacco

I'll chime in for Carter Hall, as well. In fact, not only do I feel it's the best drugstore blend, but I also think it smokes circles around most tinned blends. It also excels as a blender and is the best stuff in the world for breaking In a new briar. Also, I think possibly the best American...

GL Pease Odyssey or any other English/Balkan tonight?

I consider Odyssey to be the absolute pinnacle of all Balkans along with Magnum Opus. It does have flaws - sometimes burns poorly and has little nicotine, but it is my favorite blend, taste wise. I'm also one of the few who considers it a mode rabble complex blend, while most seem to feel its...

    Fillmore

Amazing how different our palates are! I find Filmore to be very "plummy" with only a little pepper. And Haddos is, to me, the very definition of a plummy Va-Per blend. I find it quite fascinating now one guy can taste pepper while the next tastes fruit! Not that it matters -- smoke what you...
