You can't trust anything I say!!!

I prefer my Sav's without the filter or adaptor, beautiful wide open draw that way. Nice pipe, love that rustication and I have a Sav poker in the same finish

How not to Fill your Pipe

Yep Jorge your "absolute" opinions once again strike, one would have thought you learned from your first post. Apparently not. I also use this method often and on stubborn blends and it works very well. Generally I'll just "stuff and puff" but on a ribbon cut this is very effective for me and...

What tobacco/blend do you use for the first few bowls in a NEW pipe?

Carter Hall for me, however that is because it is one of my all time favourite tobaccos. But I don't think of it that way, the other day I broke in a new Savinelli with McClellan Blue Mountain/Balkan Blue so I say just smoke what you want in it. Fill her up and puff away.

    My 2000th Post!

I, for one, have definitely gleaned knowledge from your experience Eric. I always enjoy your posts and look forward to the next 2000! Brian

Lessons Of The Newb (OVERLY WORDY!!)

Wow uncleblackie, way to label a guy for talking about his love of a hobby. So this is what he loves today, maybe his tastes change, maybe they don't. Who are we to judge how he enjoys his collection. Besides, there's a thriving estate market he can always trade for new favourites down the...

    Where to start with cigars?

If you are looking for a really nice budget cigar, the Casa de Garcia robusto is an excellent choice. It is a "white label" brand that many cigar shops in Canada and the US use as their "house" sticks. Excellent burn and value for the dollar, they are around $2 a stick. I also enjoy Oliva...

Best New Briar Pipe for under $200?

My best smoking pipe by far, better than my Dunhill, artisan carvers (although both are excellent) is a Brigham 427 Chinook. If factory is something you're considering, I would at least look there as well. Although I've heard amazing things about the Ligne Bretagne as well.

How long would 10 lbs of tobacco last you?

Cosmic, I smoke a little more that Yaz, but if you work in an office (as Dan and I both do) there is no opportunity to smoke during the work day, then add in young children and all other aspects of daily life and that is the reality of the "Hobby Smoker". At most I'm 7 bowls a week, but when...

    It's Better Outdoors

Funny you mention that Freakiefrog, on really humid days in the summer I can't get any flavour from my pipes. That's when I'll flip to a cigar. One of our pipe club guys always talks about how a cigar smokes better in the summer cause that's where it's made in hot humid climates, while a pipe...

    It's Better Outdoors

I actually prefer the colder weather for smoking (although not necessarily the almost -40 we hit last week) as it seems to concentrate the smoke for me and I pick up flavours I don't otherwise in a warm environment.

    Is Paper Dead?

This is funny, I work in the mailing/printing business and we are constantly hearing about how mail and by extension paper, is dead. The funny thing is people are using more and more paper every year. Since they get their bills emailed to them they feel they are environmentally...

    Fast Five Final Questions

    1. Brigham 426 in the Chinook finish (4dot sandblast with black stain & nickel band) 2. MM 965 or Carter Hall 3. Coffee 4. Movie although music is nice while up at the trailer 5. Sitting in the early fall around the campfire by myself, still warm, dog at my side with a coffee in hand...

My First Pipe Beginning Stages Pics

Anthony, this is fantastic work, seriously good! When I first saw this thread with the make your own pipe I kept saying to myself I have to do this. After this I think I'm going to give it a whirl and see what happens. I doubt it will look this nice but I think I'll enjoy it as well. Hats...

Michael Parks: My 2nd Commisioned Pipe Process

Michael is an exceptional guy to deal with. We have the great joy of having as a member of our Pipe club and I've shared many a bowl with him in his shop. I can almost guarantee that you will be more than pleased with your commission. Good luck and share the pictures he is likely to share...

    VA/Perique Remarks

Escudo is the top of the Vaper list for me, its creamy balance with that right hint of pepper is amazing. I have a Savinelli Tundra straight billiard that this blend just sings in. For an off the wall suggestion, the Sutliff 1849 vaper is outstanding as well. Less perique, but a sweeter...
