    The Love of Small Pipes

Around 2018 I came to realize I prefer a lighter pipe, 30g tops unless it's 3/4 or full bent. The majority of mine are 5" or a bit shorter. Some have very small bowls - others quite a bit larger. My favorites tend to be classically shaped but scaled down.

I'm a sucker for cross grain/birdseye. When a carver can fit both in to a relatively limited space shape like a prince, it's even more concentrated and pronounced. I know Fabio Marchese is a carpenter/wood artist by trade. Pipes aren't his main expression unfortunately.

    Your Most Heavenly Tin Notes

HU Soraya is a great one for me. Mcclelland flakes are in a class to themselves I think - I especially adore the tin note of their Va/Or flakes like MV 24 and Tudor Castle. Gawith Sams Flake and Brown Sugar flake always beg for multiple whiffs upon opening.

1920s Photo of my Dad with Pipe

I was just thinking about starting a thread for us to share old photos of family with pipes. This is my late Uncle John Carrol Shader around age 4, circa 1960. The pipe and hat belonged to my great uncle Joe Shader.
