Cynthia looks bad-ass smoking a Nanna Ivarsson pipe in her leather jacket, jeans & boots, and no one is getting near that pipe while she’s packing an AK-47 assault rifle.
The pipe was on loan from well-known collector and author of the book, "In Search of Pipe Dreams", Rick Newcombe. Rick tells us about the pipe; "This was the 24th pipe Nanna Ivarsson made in 1995, when she was working alongside her famous grandfather, Sixten Ivarsson, in his workshop in downtown Copenhagen. The shape was originally created by Lars Ivarsson, Nanna’s father, in the 1980s. I saw the pipe in the workshop in rough form and said that it looked like a golf ball on a tee, and I ordered it on the spot. I waited many months before receiving the finished pipe, and it was worth the wait."
Here is a closer look at the Nanna Ivarsson Golf Ball on a Tee.

I love this shoot. Chelsea looks hot in her jeans and sweater, and she has the most amazing blue eyes. I love it when she looks straight into the camera. The shots in the second half where she is laying down on the couch and tilting her head back are a nice new angle we haven’t done before.

Carmen is enjoying a mid-Summer’s day smoking a flavorful bowl of 7 Seas Gold from Mac Baren. It is a golden blend of Burley and Virginia tobaccos. 7 Seas Gold is a soft and exceptionally mellow smoke with a delightful aromatic taste.
Carmen’s pipe is a Kaywoodie G20 Lightweight No. 4757-3R. Being fashion-conscious, you will notice that her nail polish perfectly matches the color of her pipe.

For my review of Orlik Golden Sliced, I contacted the very friendly and accommodating Orlik Factory Manager, Troels Juul Mikkelsen. Troels gave me my first pouch of Orlik Golden Sliced when I visited the factory last year.
He didn’t have the chance to answer me before my article deadline, so the review was published without some exceptionally interesting information that has now come through.
I asked for any background information, such as:
1. Geographic Origin of the tobaccos
2. Year the blend was first introduced
3. Percent of Virginia and Burley
It’s Friday here at the Chicago Pipe Show, and tomorrow is the judging and awards ceremony for the highly anticipated "Balkan Sobranie Throwdown". PipesMagazine.com originally broke the news of the contest on April 14th. Three tobacco blenders will compete to see who can create a new blend that comes the closest to the legendary Balkan Sobraine 759. They are Mike McNeil of McClelland Tobacco, Russ Ouellette of Hearth & Home, and Carl McAllister from Altadis. The three judges will be Rick Newcombe (pipe collector and author of In Search of Pipe Dreams), Joe Harb (renowned tobacco reviewer), and Neill Archer Roan (pipe collector and author of A Passion for Pipes).
The judges have been smoking the blends for a few weeks in different types of pipes and at different times of day. Their conclusions will be announced and awards presented at 5:00 PM in the smoking tent here in St. Charles IL at the Chicagoland International Pipe & Tobacciana Show. In addition, hundreds of show attendees will have the opportunity to participate in their own smoking and judging of the blends. Free samples of the three blends are being handed out until they are depleted. There are also samples of the Balkan Sobranie available for $20. In the "People’s Choice Awards", you can compare to Balkan Sobranie, or you can just choose which of the three free samples you like best. They come individually packed in small Ziploc bags with a ballot attached. Ballots are to be turned in by 4:00 PM Saturday at the UPCA table.

I have mentioned in the past how there are many variables that can affect the pipe smoking experience.
I also frequently refer to pipe smoking as an experience, because to me that’s what it is … an overall experience that touches on all 5 senses.
You see and feel the tobacco. You smell and taste it, and you can hear the match or lighter, and sometimes the crackling, and hopefully not the gurgle.
Some of the variables that can affect the smoking experience are; time of day, what you ate or didn’t eat, the weather, climate & season, how relaxed or not relaxed you are, and many more not to leave out the obvious; like the tobacco and type of pipe.

Chicago Show Schedule
The "Chicago Pipe Show" (officially The Chicagoland Int’l Pipe & Tobacciana Show) is fast approaching. The official show dates are May 14 & 15 for the exhibit tables, but there are actually show activities going on for nearly the entire week - from Wednesday - Monday.
Here’s a great outdoor shoot with some great colors from the red brick wall combining and contrasting with Chelsea’s auburn hair. The ebony Peterson pipe nicely matches Chelsea’s black top and grey skirt, and then we bring more red into the picture with Chelsea’s high heel shoes. Chelsea looks glamorous smoking her Peterson Killarney Ebony (999) Fishtail.
